| Destination Imagination Teams Are Global Achievers |
| A record seven Ashwaubenon School District Destination Imagination (DI) teams qualified for and competed at the annual DI Global Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 23rd-26th. Two Ashwaubenon teams received special recognition and an honorable mention at the closing ceremonies, and five of the teams finished in the top 25%, which equates to the top 1% of all teams worldwide. |

| 16 Valley View Students Receive Math Olympiad Awards |
| Sixteen students at Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School won awards for excellence in the this year's Math Olympiad competition. They were among the seventy-five Valley View students and 150,000 students worldwide who participated in this annual program which runs from November through March. |

| Valley View 4th Graders To Skype With Pen Pals From Ecuador |
| On May 23rd, Jennifer Nelsons 4th grade Spanish students at Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School will Skype with their pen pals from Ecuador. This activity is part of a grant project entitled "Bringing Everyone Together with Technology." Mrs. Nelson was awarded an NEA Student Achievement grant to help increase Spanish language acquisition and cultural awareness for her students. The Skype session will take place from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the school on 2200 True Lane. |

| AHS Students Selected To State Honors Choir |
| Ashwaubenon High School juniors Luke Connelly and Lauren Pavlik have been selected to be members of the 2012 State Honors Choir. Connelly will perform in the Overture Center at the State Music Conference in Madison at the end of October. Pavlik was not able to accept the award since she will be in Ecuador with the AHS Spanish Club during the honor choir's summer camp. |

One advanced further by being named a top 10 student in the world in his category. Over 12,000 students from around the world took part in the annual marketing competition. |

| AHS Advances Six out of Nine State DECA Competitors to Internationals |
| Six of the nine Ashwaubenon High School students that competed at the DECA State Competition are advancing on to the International Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. The State Competition took place on March 13th and 14th in Lake Geneva, with over 1,200 students participating in sixteen different event categories. To advance, the students had to finish in the top six of their category. |

| Parkview Student Earns Second Place in State Art Contest, Moves on to Nationals |
| Hannah Brault, a seventh grade student at Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School, has won 2nd place in the Wisconsin Aviation Art Contest. Hannah's acrylic painting was selected out of the 437 entries submitted at the intermediate level for the state of Wisconsin. Hannah's painting has been sent on to Washington D.C. for the next level of judging in the national competition. |

| On March 10th, Ashwaubenon schools had twenty-nine teams participate in the Destination Imagination (DI) Regional Competition, hosted at Ashwaubenon High School. Of the twenty-three Ashwaubenon teams in competitive categories, fourteen placed high enough to advance to the State Tournament. In addition, one team qualified for the Community Service Challenge at State while two teams and one individual received special recognition awards. |

| During the weekend of February 25th, the Ashwaubenon High School jazz ensembles took part in the annual Rolling Meadows Jazz Festival in Chicago, Illinois. Three students earned soloist awards for their outstanding performances at the festival - senior Libby Welton on the drum set, junior Jared Roberts on the drum set, and junior Cole Roberg on the electric guitar. The festival features students from over fifty high schools throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. |

| AHS Advances Nine Students to State DECA Competition |
| On January 7th, Ashwaubenon High School sent sixteen students to compete in the DECA District Competition at Kimberly High School. Out of the sixteen business competition categories, Ashwaubenon earned two first place finishes, one second and one fourth place finish. Fourteen of the sixteen Ashwaubenon students won awards, with nine of them advancing to the State Competition to be held in March. |

| Ashwaubenon Alum and Mural Artist to be Recognized at Friday Basketball Game |
| Ashwaubenon High School will recognize artist and 2009 alum, Miss Sydney Appleton, on Friday, January 6 for the mural she designed and painted on the AHS Fieldhouse wall. Appleton, a 2009 AHS graduate and current undergraduate student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, created the "Jungle Fever" mural this past summer. The recognition ceremony will take place at halftime of the 7:15 p.m. Girls Basketball game in the AHS Fieldhouse. After the ceremony, Appleton will be handing out a limited quantity of signed postcard replicas of the mural. |

| Temporary Lockdown At Ashwaubenon High School Monday Morning |
| On Monday, December 12th at 10:55 a.m. Ashwaubenon High School went into a temporary security lockdown. Upon advisement of Ashwaubenon Public Safety, the building went into lockdown until an emotional student, who had left the building, could be located. The student was located by the High School Liaison Officer in the high school parking lot at 11:00 a.m. The lockdown ended at 11:10 a.m. and the high school went back to a normal schedule. No other Ashwaubenon School District schools were involved in this situation. |

| The Ashwaubenon High School and Notre Dame Academy Sting Cancer groups will be holding a Pink Out Football event during Friday night's varsity football game at Notre Dame's Ted Fritsch Field. The groups are collaborating to help raise money for the Green Bay Breast Cancer Family Foundation. Players and coaches from both teams, as well as the Pep Band, Cheer, and Dance Teams will be showing their support by wearing pink colored items on their uniforms. In addition, both Sting Cancer groups will be conducting a bake sale and a "Miracle Minute" fundraising activity between the first and second quarters of the game. |

| 1:1 Technology Initiative Expands By Distributing Netbooks To Freshmen & Sophomores |
| Beginning Monday morning, September 12th, the Ashwaubenon School District is expanding its '1:1 (One-to-One) Initiative' by distributing netbook computers to all Ashwaubenon High School freshmen and sophomores. The technology initiative started as a pilot program in February when netbooks were distributed to last school year's freshman class. Those students, now sophomores, along with the incoming freshman class will be receiving their netbooks during the distribution days of Monday, September 12th and Tuesday, September 13th. This will result in one half, or approximately 500 students, of Ashwaubenon High's student body having a district-issued, wirelessly networked computer. The goal of the program is to provide all students with access to a digital tool; in this case, a computer. |

| School District Earns Environmental Stewardship Award |
| For saving enough energy in 17 months to effectively plant more than 20,380 trees, Ashwaubenon School District will be presented with The Award for Energy Stewardship from Energy Education during the September 12th school board meeting. The Award for Energy Stewardship recognizes the organization's efforts to implement an innovative organizational behavior-based energy conservation and management program. The program, administered through a strategic alliance with Energy Education, has also helped all Ashwaubenon School District buildings become Energy Star certified. |

| Ashwaubenon School District Literacy Coach, Chris Cherney, recently attended a week long writing institute in New York City on the Columbia University campus. The Writing Institute was designed for educators who are committed to turning classrooms into richly literate reading and writing workshops. Cherney was awarded the funding through the Ashwaubenon Education Foundation, which is a newly organized structure to support innovation within the Ashwaubenon schools. |

| Ashwaubenon Schools Switch Half-Day Due To Opening Packer Game Festivities |
| The Ashwaubenon School District has switched a half-day in their school calendar to accommodate the Green Bay Packer and NFL opening game festivities. As recommended by Ashwaubenon Public Safety, the schools will release students early on Thursday, September 8th to help assure student safety. This half-day will take the place of an already scheduled half-day on Friday, September 23rd, resulting in September 23rd now being a full-day of school. Teachers will work a full-day on both days, with the afternoon of September 8th now being utilized for staff development activities. |

| Destination Imagination Teams Place 6th and 12th Globally |
| Three Ashwaubenon School District Destination Imagination (DI) teams qualified for and competed at the annual DI Global Tournament, which took place in Knoxville, TN from May 25-28. The teams competed against other teams from the U.S. and forty countries, earning a 6th place Honorable Mention and a 12th place finish. |

| Ashwaubenon Offers Summer "Reading Rocks" Program For Children |
| The Ashwaubenon School District, Ashwaubenon Parks and Recreation Department, and Barnes and Noble are teaming up again to offer "Reading Rocks: an hour of reading and fun in the park", for the next several Wednesday mornings. The program, for children ages 2 to 4 and students entering 4 year-old Kindergarten through 5th Grade, takes place at Ashwaubenon's Klipstine Park. It started on July 20 and runs through August 17 from 10:30-11:30 am. Reading Rocks is followed by the Village's popular Concert in the Park series. |

| Ashwaubenon Student Selected to National DARE Conference |
| Cody Alsteen, an Ashwaubenon 5th grade student at Valley View Elementary, was selected to read his DARE essay for the opening ceremonies of the International DARE Conference at Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennesee. Cody wrote this essay and read it at DARE graduation this year at Valley View. |
