Ashwaubenon Offers Summer "Reading Rocks" Program For Children
The Ashwaubenon School District, Ashwaubenon Parks and Recreation Department, and Barnes and Noble are teaming up again to offer "Reading Rocks: an hour of reading and fun in the park", for several Wednesday mornings this summer. The program, for children ages 2 to 4 and students entering 4 year-old Kindergarten through 5th Grade, takes place at Ashwaubenon's Klipstine Park starting on July 20 through August 17 from 10:30-11:30 am. Reading Rocks is followed by the Village's popular Concert in the Park series.
'Seniors In The Schools' Program To Continue In Fall After Summer Break
As the students and staff in the Ashwaubenon School District take their summer break, another group of very important people are also out of school for the summer. These vital individuals are the senior citizens (50+) who are part of Ashwaubenon's Seniors in the Schools Program.
Destination Imagination Teams Recyclable Paper Drive Through June 18th
Ashwaubenon's Destination Imagination (DI) teams are collecting recyclable paper and corrugate boxes at Valley View Elementary School, 2200 True Lane, through Saturday, June 18. A large open bin is located near entrance IE to drop off recyclable paper products such as newspaper, printer paper, copy paper, mixed paper, magazines, junk mail, corrugate boxes, cereal boxes, pasta boxes, soda boxes. All community members are encouraged to participate in the drive.
Valley View's Community Connections Day
On Tuesday, June 7, Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School will be having a school-wide enrichment day called "Valley View Community Connections." Valley View's character education program, HERO - Helping Everyone Respect Others, generated the idea for this activity. The event will focus on students living the motto by helping others in their community.
Fourth Annual Gift of Education Scholarship Recipients Selected
The Gift of Education Scholarship was awarded on May 18 to William Maes and Benjamin Warner, two seniors at Ashwaubenon High School. William will attend the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the fall, majoring in biochemistry with plans to attend medical school. Benjamin will attend Luther College, majoring in science. William and Benjamin were selected for this award based on their outstanding applications, strong academic performance, and record of participation at AHS.
Ashwaubenon Students Place High At Visioneer Design Challenge
Two teams from the Ashwaubenon School District competed at the 5th Annual Visioneer Design Challenge on April 15th at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Peck School of Art. Sponsored by a grant from the Ashwaubenon Educational Foundation, Parkview Middle School and Ashwaubenon High School sent sixteen students, led by art instructors Melissa Gerrior and Erica Becker. Competing against 200 students from across the state, Ashwaubenon students earned four 1st place and seven 2nd place finishes in the Wisconsin Art Education Association event.
Civil War Comes Alive For Ashwaubenon Students
Ashwaubenon fifth-graders will take part in a Civil War re-enactment on Friday, May 20th at Valley View Elementary School, 2200 True Lane. The fifth grade students, from Ashwaubenon's Valley View and Pioneer schools, will march in the streets, participate in eight learning stations and end the day in a simulation of Pickett's Charge - one of battles of Gettysburg and perhaps the defining moment of the Civil War. This year marks the tenth anniversary of this annual event.
AHS Art Show This Weekend At Ashwaubenon Historical Society
The Ashwaubenon High School's Annual Art Show, "Brushstroke of Genius", opens Saturday May 21st at the Ashwaubenon Historical Society on Cormier Road. The show, which runs from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, features work from ninth through twelfth grade students participating in art, design, and photography classes at the high school. The show is open to the public and includes an awards ceremony at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.
AHS Choirs Host Annual Pops Concert Sunday
The Ashwaubenon High School Concert ,Treble, and Mixed Choirs will present their final concert of the school year entitled "Music of Stage and Screen" on Sunday, May 22nd in the high school auditorium at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature songs by artists such as Celtic Women, Plain White T's, Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, and Alabama. The choirs are under the direction of Teresa Schroepfer and will be accompanied by Mrs. Mary Kempen and Andrew Clark on keyboards with Libby Welton on drums and Tom Jacquet on bass. Admission is free of charge.
AHS Students Represent Area In Youth Art Exhibit At State Capitol
Artwork from Ashwaubenon High School students Brittany Carlson and Bailee Wautlet will be on display as part of the Wisconsin Art Education Association?s State Capitol Rotunda Youth Art Month Exhibit. This exhibit, which features art from twenty-six area schools, is on display through May 24th at the State Capitol Rotunda in Madison.
Seven AHS Students Compete At DECA International Competition In Orlando
Ashwaubenon High School sent seven students to compete at the DECA International Competition in Orlando, Florida. All seven qualified by placing in the top seven of the State Competition held in March. DECA's International Competition, which took place on May 1st and 2nd, features over 15,000 students from around the world.
Ashwaubenon School Board Approves Teacher Contract Extension
The Ashwaubenon School Board unanimously approved a one year extension of the teacher contract on Monday, May 9. This extension, which covers the 2011-12 school year, was approved by the Ashwaubenon Education Association on Friday, May 6.
District Employees Recognized By Teachers' Association
A number of Ashwaubenon School District educators and support staff have been honored by the Ashwaubenon Education Association (AEA) for their outstanding efforts during the 2010-2011 school year. Each honoree was nominated by a colleague. A recognition dinner for the honorees and school district retirees took place on Thursday, April 28th at the Stadium View banquet facility in Ashwaubenon.
Art Teachers Earn National Recognition As NEH Summer Scholars
Ashwaubenon School District Art teachers Kathleen Kowalczyk and Dean Stadel were named Summer Scholars by the National Endowment of Humanities. This summer, they will participate in an institute entitled "Mesoamerican Cultures and their Histories: Spotlight on Oaxaca." The four-week program will be held at the Centro Cultural de Santo Domingo, Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, Mexico, and will be directed by Dr. Stephanie Wood of the University of Oregon.
Ashwaubenon Qualifies Three Teams For DI Global Tournament
The Ashwaubenon School District qualified three Destination ImagiNation (DI) teams to compete at the Global Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fourteen Ashwaubenon Teams competed at DI's State Tournament in Stevens Point on April 16th. In addition to the three teams advancing to Globals, three other Ashwaubenon teams earned special recognition awards. The DI Global Tournament takes place May 25-28.
4 Year-Old Kindergarteners Team Up With AHS PhyEd Classes
Ashwaubenon Four Year-old Kindergarten (4K) classes teamed up with Ashwaubenon High School Physical Education classes for a 4K Physical Education Day on Friday April 15th. The 4K students, from both morning and afternoon sessions, participated in a variety of physical activities and games and contributed high energy and enthusiasm to the event.
Entire Ashwaubenon School District Earns Energy Star Rating
With the recent announcement that the Ashwaubenon School's district office has been named an ENERGY STAR building, all six buildings in the Ashwaubenon School District are now classified as ENERGY STAR partners. "The district has been working diligently on conserving energy in our buildings for just over ten years now," stated Ashwaubenon Superintendent David Schmidt. "We are very pleased to hear that all of our buildings are now Energy Star certified."
Ashwaubenon Kindergarteners Become Music Composers
Four and five year-old Kindergarteners at Ashwaubenon's Cormier Early Learning Center have been working with musicians Tom Pease and Stuart Stotts as part of an artists in residence program. The students worked with the children's musicians to compose their own lyrics to songs, including a personalized graduation song for each Kindergarten class. The program culminates with the students debuting their work at a concert for family and friends on April 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Valley View Elementary School. The evening also includes a pizza party and a mini concert by Pease and Stotts.
AHS Advances 63 Music Events To State Solo And Ensemble
Ashwaubenon High School advanced sixty-three events onto the State Solo and Ensemble competition taking place on May 7th at UW-Green Bay. AHS entered a total of sixty-eight band events, sixty-three choir events and fourteen piano events at the District competition, which was held at West De Pere High School in early March. Performers earning a star-first rating on a Class A piece at Districts qualify for State.
Destination Imagination Teams Holding Recyclable Paper Drive April 9th
Ashwaubenon's DestiNation Imagination (DI) teams are collecting recyclable paper and corrugate boxes at Valley View Elementary School, 2200 True Lane, on Saturday, April 9th from 8:00 a.m. to noon. All community members are encouraged to participate in the drive. Recyclable paper and boxes to be collected include newspaper, printer paper, copy paper, mixed paper, magazines, junk mail, corrugate boxes, cereal boxes, pasta boxes, soda boxes, etc.
Pioneer's Pioneerville Open To Public On April 1st
Students and staff at Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School, working in conjunction with area businesses, are creating a community called Pioneerville. At Pioneerville, people can shop for themselves or their pets, visit the movie theatre, eat at several different restaurants, play at the arcade, work out at the gym, and explore many other fun places. Pioneerville is open to the Ashwaubenon community on April 1st from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m.
Ashwaubenon Schools Host Meet And Greet For New Superintendent
On Thursday, April 7th, the Ashwaubenon School District is hosting a Meet and Greet to introduce their new superintendent, Dr. Brian Hanes. The event takes place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Ashwaubenon High School Commons at 2391 S. Ridge Road. All district staff and the entire Ashwaubenon community are invited to attend.
Ashwaubenon Advances All DECA Participants On To International Competition
All nine Ashwaubenon High School students that competed at the State DECA tournament are advancing on to the International competition in Orlando, Florida. The State competition took place in early March in Lake Geneva, with over 1,200 students participating in sixteen different event categories. To advance, the Ashwaubenon students had to finish in the top seven of their category.
Ashwaubenon Schools Advance 13 DI Teams To State
Ashwaubenon School District schools sent twenty-three teams to participate in the Destination Imagination (DI) regional tournament. Eighteen of the teams were in competitive categories with eleven of them advancing to the state tournament. In addition, two other teams will compete in the Community Service challenge, offered for the first time at the state level. Two Ashwaubenon teams were also the recipients of special recognition awards - "The Renaissance" award for outstanding creativity and technical design and "The Spirit of DI" award.
Ashwaubenon High School Spring Choral Concert
The four Ashwaubenon High School choirs will perform "Musical Styles for Spring" this coming Sunday, March 27 in the high school auditorium at 6:30 PM. Song styles include folk, spiritual, gospel, rock, contemporary, and ballads. The choirs are under the direction of Teresa Schroepfer and are accompanied by Mrs. Mary Kempen and student accompanist, Katie Hayes. Admission is free of charge.
Parkview Students Partner With Civil Engineers
8th Grade students at Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School recently had the opportunity to become civil engineers. Working side by side with engineers from Ayres Associates, the students designed bridges to span the Fox River using a computer drafting program and then built actual balsa wood towers. The top design weighed just over an ounce but supported 110 pounds.
Ashwaubenon Teachers Donate Canned Food Goods
Many Ashwaubenon School District teachers donated can goods to The Stocked Shelf Food Pantry, operated out of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ashwaubenon. During a two-week period ending in March, participating teachers choose to donate one can of food for each hour they worked beyond their normal school day. Well over 1,000 canned food items were collected.
School District Staff Raise Over $2,500 To Offer Scholarships
The staff of the Ashwaubenon School District raised over $2,500 to support the district's Gift of Education program, a partnership between the Ashwaubenon Education Association, Support Professionals Association, and Substitute Teachers Association. The Gift of Education Program aims to award scholarships to graduating seniors of Ashwaubenon High School each spring.
Parkview Cheer Team Sponsors Successful Food Drive
The Cheer Team from Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School sponsored a food drive in February to assist The Stocked Shelf Food Pantry at St. John's Church, also in Ashwaubenon. The team promoted the drive within the school and was able to encourage classmates to donate a total of 2,626 non-perishable food items. Team members then went to St. John's Church after school and stocked the shelves with the donated items. The team's efforts will assist the shelter in their ability to serve sixteen families each week in the Ashwaubenon area.
AEF Funds Parenting Workshop Hosted By Ashwaubenon Family Resource Center
Working with families in the Ashwaubenon and Green Bay school districts, the Ashwaubenon Family Resource Center hosted a series of "Love and Limits" parenting workshops in January. Parent coach Ruth Fett, from Parent Team LLC., M.S.C, and parent educator, Jill Sobieck, explained the five protective factors from Strengthening Families philosophy as well as positive discipline techniques in parenting. The evening workshops, funded by the Ashwaubenon Education Foundation, ran throughout the month of January and culminated in a family sit down dinner, designed to promote family connectivity
New Superintendent Approved in Ashwaubenon
After several months of application review, interviews and a site visit, the Board of Education has agreed to offer a contract to Dr. Brian Hanes, current superintendent in Oostburg, WI as the next superintendent in Ashwaubenon beginning July 1, 2011. Current superintendent David Schmidt announced his intention to leave Ashwaubenon in November after serving in the role for three years. Brian Hanes has been in the superintendent's role in Oostburg for 13 years and was a teacher and high school principal prior to his superintendent work.

Valley View Celebrates Read Across America and Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss' legacy lives on at Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School. Students and staff will celebrate the beloved author's work and passion for reading all week long in conjunction with National Education Association's Read Across America annual campaign to invite children in every community to celebrate reading. The week of February 28th through March 4th at Valley View will be filled with activities and opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the works of Dr. Seuss and other favorite authors.
Senior Citizens Celebrate Dr. Seuss With Elementary School Read-in
Ashwaubenon School District's elementary students will join together with Ashwaubenon senior citizens on Wednesday, March 2, to share the joy of reading and to celebrate the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss. Throughout the day senior volunteers will be reading Dr. Seuss stories to twenty classes at Pioneer Elementary School and thirty-one classes at Valley View Elementary School.
Nordic Ski Club Teams Host And Place In Conference Ski Race
Ashwaubenon's Nordic Ski teams hosted the Wisconsin High School Nordic Ski League (WHSNSL) Central Conference race on Thursday, February 3rd at the Brown County Reforestation Camp. The race was a continuous pursuit format, combining skate and classic methods where skiers changed skis mid-race. All four Ashwaubenon teams ? high school boys, high school girls, middle school boys and middle school girls - finished within the top three of their division.
AHS Distributing Netbooks To All Freshman Thursday
Ashwaubenon High School will begin to look and feel different beginning on Thursday February 10, 2011 at 7:40 a.m. The Ashwaubenon School District is eager to begin their implementation of a "1-to-1 Initiative" technology pilot for 238 freshmen students at Ashwaubenon High School. The "1-to-1 Initiative" has as its goal, to provide all students with access to a digital tool; in this case, one computer per student. That starts on Thursday morning when all 9th grade students will be assigned a wireless netbook computer to use as their own for the remainder of the school year.
Ashwaubenon High School Hosts Kids Drama Workshop
Students in the Ashwaubenon High School Performing Arts Club recently hosted a "Kids Drama Workshop" on Saturday, January 22nd. Third through eighth grade elementary and middle school children from the Green Bay area participated in the drama workshop where they were given the exciting opportunity to jump up on stage and see what it?s like to be in the spotlight.

Schools Hosting 10th Annual German Fasching Celebration
The Ashwaubenon School District will be hosting their 10th annual German Fasching Celebration on Thursday, February 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Stadium View Bar and Grill's banquet facilities. All Grades 1-12 German students and their families are invited to attend this German holiday, which is celebrated before Lent each year.
Pioneer Hosts Father-Daughter Dance
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School held their first annual Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, January 21, 2011. It was held in the Pioneer gym, which was transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Over 150 fathers, grandfathers and first through fifth grade girls attended.
Ashwaubenon Kindergarteners Take Part In Biggest Bedtime Story
On Thursday, January 13th Ashwaubenon's Cormier School & Early Learning Center hosted a Biggest Bedtime Story Night. Four year old and five year old kindergarten students and their families enjoyed the evening together and heard many stories. Over 300 people were in attendance and many came in their pajamas for the bedtime reading celebration.
Artist in Residence Spends Week at Valley View
During the week of January 17-21, Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School is hosting an artist- in-residence, Jesse Wilhelm. Wilhelm, a professional artist from the St. Petersburg, Florida area and native of Green Bay, will guide students in the creation of murals that are artistic testaments to the school's "HERO" program. "HERO" stands for Helping Everyone, Respect Others and is the school-wide belief of respect, compassion, and peace between all people.
Foundation Enhances Student Access To Digital Books
Samantha Schaumberg, a senior student at Ashwaubenon High School, is a voracious reader. In previous school years, that might have involved a hefty backpack filled with books. Not this year.
AHS Issuing Netbooks To All Freshman
Ashwaubenon High School will begin to look and feel different for students beginning in February. The school district is moving to a "1-to-1 Initiative" technology pilot for 260 freshmen students in February. All 9th grade students will be issued a wireless netbook computer to use as their own for the remainder of the school year. Staff is excited about the potential for changes in classroom work. Staff is also ready for the potential of increased and equitable access to the internet for all students, increased collaboration and expanded learning opportunities. Partnering with Verizon Wireless, the netbooks will have access to both the current wireless system at Ashwaubenon High School and will have 3G connectivity to the national Verizon Wireless network away from school and at home.
AHS Advances Nine to DECA State Competition
On January 8th, Ashwaubenon High School sent twenty-one students to compete with over 600 students from area schools in the DECA District Competition at Kimberly High School. Out of the sixteen business competition categories, Ashwaubenon earned three first place finishes. Ten of the twenty-one Ashwaubenon students earned medals, resulting in nine students qualifying for the State Competition to be held in March.
Ashwaubenon Physical Education Open Forum Night
On Tuesday, January 11th, Dr. Ashok Rai, MD, President of Prevea Health, will be the keynote speaker at a Physical Education Open Forum being held at Ashwaubenon High School Auditorium from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Western Racquet and Fitness Club, represented by Wellness Coordinator Jennifer Younk, will also be recognized as Partnership In Action at the event which is free of charge and open to the public.
Foundation Funds Ball Chairs To Get Students Moving
Many young students struggle to sit still in their seats and may be seen fidgeting, rocking in their chairs or getting up again and again. The students are demonstrating that they need to move and may be struggling to focus on their lessons. Exercise balls that are chair height allow these students to "get their wiggles out" and become more actively engaged in classroom activities and discussions. The Ashwaubenon Education Foundation provided a grant that enabled twelve elementary classrooms in Ashwaubenon to participate in a ball chair program that has gotten kids moving.
Ashwaubenon Superintendent to Resign June 30, 2011
David Schmidt, the Ashwaubenon School District Superintendent, will resign the district post on June 30, 2011. He served in the district for three years, initially as an interim superintendent, after retiring from a ten year position as the superintendent in Waukesha. His previous school positions were in the Appleton School District. He states "Ashwaubenon is a very quality school district with its focus on the right areas. The past three years have been an excellent opportunity for me to set a clear direction to support student learning and opportunities." Schmidt has no plans to seek other superintendent work at this time.
School District Provides Free Energy Dashboard To Community
The Ashwaubenon School District is pleased to announce the availability of a free online energy tracking tool. The free website, named GreenQuest, is a personal energy dashboard that enables community members to track and analyze the energy use for their home or place of business. According to Ed Krcmar, Energy Education Specialist, the district is providing GreenQuest to the community in order to educate, raise awareness, and promote energy conservation.
Valley View Students To Enjoy Free Books And Senior Citizen Read-in
Tuesday will be a special day for all students at Valley View Elementary School in Ashwaubenon. As part of the December 14th Reading is Fundamental (RIF) celebration, every student at the school will be receiving a free book of their choice. In addition, every classroom in the school will be visited by senior citizen volunteers who will share their own joy of books by reading winter or holiday stories to the students.
Valley View 5th Graders Buying Toys For Other Children
The students in Sharon Brecklin's 5th grade class at Valley View Elementary School in Ashwaubenon gave up their recess time to raise money for the 'Toys for Tots' program. They sold 850 stress balls for a dollar each. With help from the U.S. Marines, the students will use the money to purchase gifts for other children on December 10th at the Shopko store in the Bay Park Square Mall.
Foundation Funds iPods As Electronic Clipboards For Gym Classes
Mark Heller, Physical Education teacher at Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School, replaced his clipboard this year with an Apple iPod Touch, thanks to a grant from the Ashwaubenon Education Foundation. Now his hands are free to demonstrate an overhand throw or the proper way to bounce pass a ball. With his new technology, he collects scores and data on a spreadsheet, takes videos and pictures of students in action, sends and receives emails from parents, uses the stopwatch to count students? jogging minutes, and plays energetic music during class. And it fits in his pocket.

Ashwaubenon Education Foundation Establishes Endowment
After four years of preparatory work, the Ashwaubenon Education Foundation announced significant progress toward their goal of raising $500,000. These funds are the first step in establishing a permanent endowment to support the Ashwaubenon School District schools. The Foundation, a charitable organization compromised of community members, will use the interest from this endowment to fund innovative and creative ideas in the classroom. Already this year, nine programs were funded, affecting students in all five buildings in the district.

Pioneer German Students Celebrate Oktoberfest With Jerry Voelker
Germany may be over 4,000 miles away, but last week for the German students at Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School, it was right in their classroom. On October 21st and 22nd, German students celebrated the fall season with an authentic cultural Oktoberfest. Former Ashwaubenon resident and popular polka band leader, Jerry Voelker from Jerry Voelker and the Jolly Gents, was their special guest. Voelker shared stories about his extensive travels and entertained students with German polkas and waltzes on his accordions.
AHS Destination Imagination Success Continues By Winning Global Video Contest
Ashwaubenon High School's Pink Panthers Destination Imagination (DI) performance team has won a global video contest. They were one of six finalists that presented at the Global Tournament's Opening Ceremony where more than 15,000 texting audience members voted live for their favorite. The Pink Panthers team won and were awarded a free membership in the DI program this school year and $1,000 to donate to a charitable cause of their choice.
All Ashwaubenon Schools Become Certified As Energy Star Partners
Demonstrating a complete dedication to energy conservation, the Ashwaubenon School District is proud to announce that all five of its schools have become certified as Energy Star Partners. The schools are Ashwaubenon High School, Parkview Middle School, Pioneer Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School and Cormier School and Early Learning Center. ?By becoming an Energy Star Partner, we are showing our full commitment to energy conservation and school building efficiency. As members of our community see the familiar Energy Star logo throughout our district, it will serve as a reminder to them of our dedication to preserving critical tax-payer dollars as well as our environment,? said Ashwaubenon School District Energy Education Specialist Ed Krcmar.
AHS Student Council Sponsoring Food Drive
Ashwaubenon High School's Student Council is organizing a food drive to take place during the final regular season home football game this Thursday, October 21st. Anyone donating three or more nonperishable food items or personal hygiene items gets into the game for free. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
District Receives Safe Routes To School Grant
The Ashwaubenon School District, working in conjunction with the Village of Ashwaubenon's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, was awarded a Safe Route to School (SRTS) grant of $156,536.00. The grant will be used to improve pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic in and around the Valley View Elementary School area, an area of greatest need among the district's five schools. The project is expected to start this coming summer.
AHS Choir Sings National Anthem At Milwaukee Bucks Game
The Ashwaubenon High School Concert Choir sang the National Anthem for the Milwaukee Bucks preseason game against the Charlotte Bobcats at the Resch Center on Saturday, October 9. The choir, under the direction of Teresa Schroepfer, was also treated to tickets to the game, courtesy of the Bucks.
150 Participate in AHS Sting Cancer Walk/Run
Ashwaubenon High School's Sting Cancer club held their inaugural "Strides for Lives" walk/run on Saturday, September 25th. Approximately 150 students, staff, and community members ran or walked in the charity event. The event raised money and awareness in order for the club to help individuals in the community with cancer.
Parkview Middle School Food Drive Collects Over 2,800 Items
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School held their Semi-annual Food Drive from September 13th through September 24th. During those twelve days, the students were able to collect 2,553 food items, 283 personal hygiene products, and $25 in cash.
Destination Imagination Program Holding Recyclable Paper Drive
Ashwaubenon School's Destination Imagination (DI) program is holding a recyclable paper drive at Valley View Elementary School, 2200 True Lane, on Saturday, October 9th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The community is encouraged to participate by contributing newspaper, printer paper, copy paper, magazines, junk mail, corrugate boxes, cereal boxes, pasta boxes, soda boxes, etc.
District Receives Carol M. White Physical Education Grant
The Ashwaubenon School District's Physical Education Department has been awarded the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant through the United States Department of Education. Over the next 3 years, the district will be awarded over $500,000.00, plus in-kind matching, for the improvement of the physical education program. This grant will address all students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, in efforts to help reach a comprehensive alignment between curriculum, instruction and assessment matched to the Wisconsin State Standards
Twelve AHS Students Earn Advanced Placement Scholar Award
Twelve students from Ashwaubenon High School have earned the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Award in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams. The AP program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to earn an AP Scholar Award.
Ashwaubenon Education Foundation Off To A Great Start
The Ashwaubenon Education Foundation is off to a great start in their quest to raise $500,000 this year for a permanent endowment. The investment earnings from these funds will be used to fund classroom directed grants to benefit the students of the Ashwaubenon School District. Over the past six months, the foundation has secured pledges and donations of approximately $150,000. The foundation continues to seek cooperation and collaboration of individuals, corporations, businesses and community organizations to secure funding to ensure excellence, opportunity and equity in the school district.
Schools Invite Senior Volunteers Back To School
It's back-to-school time, but not just for the students and staff of the Ashwaubenon School District. Ashwaubenon senior citizens, 50 years of age and older, are being invited into the schools to serve in a wide range of volunteer capacities that are available at all three elementary schools, Parkview Middle School, and Ashwaubenon High School.
AHS Yearbook Offers Innovative Personal Yearbook Pages
Ashwaubenon High School's yearbook program today announced they will be one of the first schools in the country to offer students the ability to create personalized yearbook pages online that will appear only in the student?s copy of the yearbook. Ashwaubenon High School and yearbook adviser Emma Slowinski selected Jostens Personal Yearbook Pages (TM) as a way to make 'The Paw' even more inclusive by ensuring every student in school can participate in the yearbook tradition.
Energy Program Enters Second Year - Parkview Earns Monthly Award
This fall marks the beginning of the second year of the Ashwaubenon School District's Energy Education Program. Guided by consultants from Energy Education, Inc, of Fort Worth, Texas, the district embarked on an energy education program in the fall of the 2009-2010 school year. To kickoff this second year of the program, Parkview Middle School was presented with the first 'Energy Stars of the Month' Award.
Schools to Hold Poverty Simulations
On September 24th and 30th, the educational staff of Ashwaubenon High School and Parkview Middle School will participate in poverty simulations. These simulations, brought to the schools through the Ashwaubenon School District Equity Council and the Brown County University of Wisconsin Extension, aim to raise awareness about what it might be like to live on a very low income. The object is to sensitize teachers and other staff to the realities faced by people with limited incomes, surviving month to month. This simulation has proven to change the way of thinking and working with low income families.
AHS Jaguar Jazz Ensemble Featured At Fox Jazz Festival
Ashwaubenon High School?s Jaguar Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Marc Jimos, will play at this year?s Fox Jazz Festival. The group will perform on Sunday, September 5th at 12:30pm in Menasha?s Jefferson Park on the shores of Lake Winnebago.
AHS Hosting 2000 State Football Championship Reunion
The Ashwaubenon High School Athletic Department will recognize the 10-year anniversary of the 2000 State Football Championship team on Friday, September 3rd at their home opener football game. Special recognition will occur during halftime of the varsity football game versus De Pere High School. There will also be a social for all team members and coaching staff at the Ashwaubenon Community Center after the football game from 8:00-11:30pm.
