Parkview Middle School Students Earn National Awards In Math Olympiad
Several students from Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School were among 150,000 students worldwide to participate in this year's Math Olympiad program. Four Parkview students won national awards for excellence. Sixth-grader Nathan Peterson finished in the top two percent while sixth-grader Leah Will and seventh-graders Claire O'Connell and Tommy Richmond finished in the top ten percent.
Parkview Eighth Graders Prepare For Transition To Ashwaubenon High School
An Ashwaubenon School District team of teachers, interested in helping smooth students' transition from middle school to high school, gave eighth graders an opportunity to experience high school. Over a four day period in May, groups of Parkview Middle School students, each paired with an Ashwaubenon High School student, travelled to the high school where they attended two classes and ate lunch. The experience was very positive since the high school students were excited to show off their school and the middle school students were anxious to see what was in store for them next school year.
Ashwaubenon Teacher Contract Enters Mediation
The Ashwaubenon School District and the Ashwaubenon Education Association have been in negotiations related to their teacher contract for 18 months. Although the process has proceeded as planned, the district and Ashwaubenon Education Association jointly determined that a mediator would benefit both parties. On Thursday, May 20, the board of education and the AEA determined that they would seek a mediator from the Wisconsin Employment Relations Council, which is standard practice for school related negotiations and follow-up mediation.
Ashwaubenon High School Bands To Present Disney Concert At The Weidner Center
All three Ashwaubenon High School bands will be featured in their final performance of the school year - a Disney-themed concert on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Weidner Center. The Weidner Center is on the campus of the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Tickets will be available at the door and, are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for senior citizens and children.
Parkview Middle School Wraps Up 'Fuel Up To Play 60' Activities With Kickball And Contests
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School is participating in the National Football League and National Dairy Council's 'Fuel Up to Play 60' program this school year. The year's activities will conclude with a school-wide kickball tournament on Friday, May 28th starting at 1:15pm. Other activities will include a healthy eating trivia contest and walking competition.
Parkview Middle School Student Scores In The Top 5% On SAT
Donglin Zhang, a seventh grade student at Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School, scored in the top five percent in the state on the Midwest Academic Talent Search SAT test. This program is an out of level testing program, offering the SAT test to gifted and talented students in third through ninth grades. Zhang was recognized and awarded a medal by the Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth at an awards ceremony on May 8th at the University of Wisconsin ? Madison.
Ashwaubenon High School's Jaguar Open Golf Outing Seeking Golfers And Sponsors
The Ashwaubenon Jaguar Athletic Department, along with Associated Bank, Brickhouse School Services, Prevea Health and Robert W. Baird & Co., will be holding its 8th annual Jaguar Open Golf Outing at Mid-Vallee Golf Course on June 21. They are currently seeking golfers and sponsors. Highlights of the day include: $10,000 Hole-in-One Contest, Golf Awards, Silent Auction and Raffles, Steak Dinner.
Pioneer And Valley View Elementary School Students Earn National Awards In Math Olympiad

Parkview Student Is State Champion In Optimist Speech Contest
Brody Vander Perren, an 8th grade student at Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School, is a state champion when it comes to the annual Optimist Speech Contest. For winning the state contest, which took place on May 1st in Rothschild, Brody earned a medal and a scholarship for $2,500.
AHS Supermileage Team Wraps Up Season, Hosting Car Show
The Ashwaubenon High School Supermileage Team ended its season on May 10th at the Road America Raceway in Elkhart Lake. The team's vehicle performed well, achieving an average of 108 miles per gallon and earning first place in braking performance. They wrap up their season by hosting a Car Show, which is also their main fundraiser, on Saturday, May 29th from 10:00am to 2:00pm in back parking lot of Ashwaubenon High.
Civil War History Comes Alive for Ashwaubenon Fifth Graders
Over 120 Ashwaubenon fifth grade students, from both Valley View and Pioneer elementary schools, will go back in history to relive the life of a soldier during the Civil War. On Friday, May 21st at Valley View Elementary School in Ashwaubenon, thirty re-enactors will make history come alive by an all-day simulation of the life of a soldier during the days of Gettysburg.
Ashwaubenon High School Choirs Present Pops Concert
The Ashwaubenon High School Concert and Treble Choirs, along with the Encore show choir, will present their final concert of the year. Titled "On with the Show", the concert features pop tunes from well known musicals and shows and takes place Sunday, May 23rd in the high school auditorium at 6:30 PM. Admission is free.
AHS Technology & Engineering Students Complete Successful Season Of Competitions
Ashwaubenon High School students in Technology & Engineering classes, clubs and activities have has a busy season, traveling throughout the State to compete in various events. In total, the students earned two first place awards, five second place awards and three third place awards.
Ashwaubenon Fifth Graders Learn To Make Bread For A Good Cause
On Tuesday, May 4th, fifth grade students at Ashwaubenon's Valley View and Pioneer elementary schools took part in a Life Skills Bread Baking Program sponsored by the King Arthur Flour Company. The program provides students with the skills necessary to make bread from scratch utilizing math and science. The students then donated the bread to three local food pantries - The Stocked Shelf, Paul's Pantry and The Marion House.
Ashwaubenon High School Art Exhibit To Display Over 300 Pieces Of Student Work
This year's annual Ashwaubenon High School art exhibit, titled "Hue Dunnit?", will showcase drawings, paintings, photography, and sculpture from introductory to advanced level art classes. The exhibit takes place at the Ashwaubenon Historical Society, 737 Cormier Road, on Saturday, May 15th and Sunday, May 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. An awards ceremony will start at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 15th.
Pioneer Elementary Hosting Art Exhibit And Intermediate Choir Concert
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School students will showcase their artistic and vocal talents in Pioneer?s annual Art Exhibit and Intermediate Choir concert on Tuesday, May 11th. The school's hallways will be filled with nearly four hundred pieces of art, representing every first through fifth grade student in the school. The Intermediate Choir will perform at 10:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. with desserts and refreshments available after the evening performance.
Pioneer Elementary Choir To Sing National Anthem At Blizzard Game
Twenty-four 4th and 5th grade students from Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School Intermediate Choir will sing the National Anthem at the Green Bay Blizzard Arena Football game on Saturday, May 8th. The game, which is at the Resch Center, starts at 7:05 p.m.
Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient to Speak at Ashwaubenon High School
Sammy Lee Davis, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, will speak to the staff and students of Ashwaubenon High School on Thursday, May 6. A welcome ceremony will begin at 9:40 a.m. in the high school field house, with Mr. Davis' address to follow.
Three Ashwaubenon DECA Students Crowned Top Ten In The World
Three Ashwaubenon High School students placed in the top ten at the International DECA Competition in Louisville, Kentucky this week. Since the competition features students from around the world, top finishers are crowned the best in the world.
AHS Parent Network Receives Grant From Partners In Education
Ashwaubenon High School's Parent Network received a grant for $2,000.00 to be used to sponsor alcohol and drug free events such as post-prom and graduation activities. The Parent Network, co-chaired by Mary Brunette and Karen Starkweather, joined with Partners in Education (PIE) to promote their "Parents Who Host Lose the Most" and "Parents You Matter" programs. These PIE programs communicate the importance of parent involvement and communication in order to deter the underage use of alcohol and experimentation with drugs.

Ashwaubenon Students To Compete At German Day In Madison
On Thursday, April 29th, thirty-nine Ashwaubenon High School and Parkview Middle School students studying German will travel to Madison to participate in the University of Wisconsin's German Day. Accompanied by German teachers Keith Halverson, Melanie Lasee and Charity Ramer, the students will participate in poetry, spelling, skits, poster-making and music contests with other German students from throughout Wisconsin.
Valley View Elementary Celebrates Arbor Day By Planting Trees
On April 26th, fifty-two fifth grade students at Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School helped plant four trees in the front of the school in celebration of Arbor Day. A proclamation by Michael Aubinger, Ashwaubenon Village President, declaring April 30th as Arbor Day in The Village of Ashwaubenon, was read aloud by students in Sharon Brecklin's classroom. The fifty-two students then took turns shoveling dirt to plant the trees.
Pioneer Students Help Ashwaubenon Resident For Earth Day Project
Mary Amenson's 4th Grade class at Ashwaubenon?s Pioneer Elementary School spent the morning of April 21st cleaning up the yard of an elderly Ashwaubenon resident. This Earth Day project both inspired a cleaner environment and allowed the students to experience the value of helping others.
AHS Choir Returns From Educational Tour Of Washington D.C.
Forty-one Ashwaubenon High School Choir students, along with Choir Director Teresa Schroepfer and seven chaperones spent five days during spring break in Washington, D.C. The choir participated with the 650-member Youth Choir in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, sang at Mount Vernon, performed at Tall Oaks Assisted Living Home in Reston, Virginia, and sang an impromptu four-part a cappella rendition of 'Taps' in front of the White House.
Parkview Middle School Teacher Spends Spring Break Helping Haitians
Theresa Charapata, a sixth grade teacher at Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School, spent her Spring Break in Haiti helping the Haitians recover from the devastating January earthquake. Prior to going to Haiti, where she taught, set up tents and provided meals, Ms. Charapata led the collection of donations from Parkview Middle School to the Haitian Helping Haitian Organization (HHHO).
Ashwaubenon Qualifies Four Teams For DI Global Competition
The Ashwaubenon School District qualified four Destination ImagiNation (DI) teams to compete at the Global tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee. This marks the second year in a row the school district has qualified this record number of teams for the international competition, which takes place May 26th-29th.
Briggs & Stratton Donates Twelve New Engines To Ashwaubenon High School
Briggs and Stratton Corporation has donated twelve new two-stroke engines to Ashwaubenon High School for their Power Technologies courses. This donation will allow Ashwaubenon students have a more realistic and up-to-date experience when working on two-stroke engines.
Valley View Elementary's KMO Team Is Number One In The State
Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School Knowledge Master Open (KMO) team earned first place in Wisconsin during the Spring KMO academic competition. Overall, the team ranked twelfth among 281 other 5th grade teams from thirty-seven states and four countries.
Parkview Hosting Anti-Bullying Expert And Seminar For Community
School violence expert and anti-bullying activist Jodee Blanco will be visiting Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School on Tuesday, March 30. The author of the New York Times bestseller 'Please Stop Laughing at Me' and the award-winning 'Please Stop Laughing at Us', will be presenting her anti-bullying program 'It's NOT Just Joking Around!' to students during the school day and to parents and the community at night. The evening seminar, which takes place from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the gymnasium, is open to the public and is followed by a book signing.
Valley View Family Reading Night At Barnes & Noble Bookstore
Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School and Barnes & Noble are teaming up for a special family reading event on March 30, at the bookstore's 2498 South Oneida Street location. The event takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and includes Valley View staff performing a choral reading of a new book by Sarah Weeks titled, 'Sophie Peterman Tells the Truth'. Families from around the district are invited to attend and are encouraged to explore the Barnes & Noble bookshelves before and after the event.
Ashwaubenon High School Changing School Colors For A Day
On Friday, March 26, Ashwaubenon High School will change its school colors for the day to honor graduates Adam and Jake Koch, who are playing for the Northern Iowa University Panthers in the "Sweet Sixteen" round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The Jaguar green and gold will be replaced with NIU's purple and gold on the day the Panthers face the Michigan State Spartans.
AHS Band To Perform "Countries And Cultures" Concert On Sunday
The Ashwaubenon High School Wind Ensemble will perform a "Countries and Cultures" concert on Sunday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The concert, which is free of charge, includes music from Mexico, Africa, Ireland, Australia, and the U.S.A.
Pioneer Elementary School Holding International Fair
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School is holding an International Fair on Friday, March 26 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. Attendees will "travel" with students and staff to different countries to learn about their culture, geography, education, economy, and government. Each classroom has spent many hours researching a specific country. The students will be sharing their knowledge of artwork, language, ethnic foods, dancing, and passion pertaining to the country they studied.
Ashwaubenon Sending 18 Destination ImagiNation Teams To State Tournament
On Saturday, March 20, Ashwaubenon High School hosted the Green Bay Regional Destination ImagiNation Tournament featuring seventy-nine teams from the Green Bay and Fox Valley area. Of the twenty-four teams the Ashwaubenon School District entered in the tournament, fifteen of them finished in first or second place and are advancing to the Wisconsin State Tournament on April 17th in Stevens Point. Three additional Ashwaubenon teams are going to State to compete in the Project Outreach community service category, a category that only competes at the State level.
Zumba Fitness Craze Hits AHS Physical Education Classes
On Thursday, March 18th, Ashwaubenon High School's Physical Education classes participated in one of the newest fitness crazes, Zumba. Lissa Marth, certified fitness and Zumba instructor from Bellin Fitness Center and Ashwaubenon Parks and Recreation, led over 130 students in 60 minutes of the Latin dance routines. Students had the opportunity to improve their cardio-vascular fitness, core toning, energy and metabolism while having fun doing it.
Ashwaubenon Enters 24 Destination Imagination Teams, Hosts Regional Tournament
On Saturday, March 20, Ashwaubenon High School will host the Green Bay Regional Destination ImagiNation Tournament. The Ashwaubenon School District has 24 teams, from elementary through high school levels, participating in this competition that includes schools throughout the Green Bay and Fox Valley area. The competition beings at 9:00 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
AHS Qualifies Five Students For International DECA Competition
Ashwaubenon High School sent seven students to compete at the DECA State Competition on March 10th and 11th in Lake Geneva. All seven students were finalists, finishing in the top ten percent of their category, with five of them advancing to the International Competition in Louisville, Kentucky in late April.
Ashwaubenon High School Choirs Present "Touring through the Eras"
Ashwaubenon High School's Concert Choir, Treble Choir and Encore Show Choir will be performing their spring concert on Sunday, March 21 at 6:30 PM in the high school auditorium at 2391 S. Ridge Road. Titled 'Touring through the Eras', the concert will feature many selections the choirs will be performing during their upcoming tour to Washington, D.C.
Pioneer Elementary Hosts "Around the World in 80 Strings"
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School will host Eric K. Sorensen and his one hour presentation, "Around the World in 80 Strings" on Friday, March 19 at 1:15 PM in the Pioneer gym. Mr. Sorensen will take Pioneer students on a musical tour as he introduces them to instruments from all over the world, including African drums, Irish pennywhistle and Australian dijeridu.
AHS Students' Art On Display At State Capital Exhibit Celebrating Youth Art Month
Ashwaubenon High School seniors Austin Knoll and Kelsey Ryan have their art on display at the State Capitol Youth Art Month Exhibit sponsored by Wisconsin Art Education Association. The digital self portrait, "Eyes of Obsession" by Kelsey Ryan and the colorful marker and colored pencil drawing titled "Nerf Guns" by Austin Knoll will be on display from March 6th through the 19th.
Parkview Middle School To Present Musical "Oh Horrors! It's Murder!"
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School will present the musical mystery, "Oh Horrors! It's Murder!" at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18th in the Ashwaubenon High School auditorium, 2391 S. Ridge Road. General Admission is $5.00 at the door.
Elementary Schools To Hold Poverty Simulations
The educational staff of all three Ashwaubenon elementary schools will participate in a poverty simulation on Monday, March 15. The poverty simulation, brought to the schools through the Ashwaubenon School District Equity Council and the Brown County University of Wisconsin Extension, aims to raise awareness about what it might be like to live on a very low income. The object is to sensitize teachers and other staff to the realities faced by people with limited incomes surviving month to month. This simulation has proven to change the way of thinking and working with low income families.
District Wellness Committee Holds Staff Health Fair
The Ashwaubenon School District's Wellness Committee is holding a Staff Health Fair on Friday, March 12th. This 2nd annual event takes place in the Ashwaubenon High School Auxiliary Gym from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. during the afternoon of the Spring Teacher Convention Day. It is open to all Ashwaubenon School District staff to encourage them to get fit and stay healthy.
Barnes & Noble Hosts Ashwaubenon Pioneer Elementary School Reading Event
Barnes & Noble and Pioneer Elementary School are teaming up for a reading event on March 11, at the bookstore's 2498 South Oneida Street location. Pioneer students will have the opportunity to "Travel Around the World" during a special story time, featuring Principal Pete Marto reading aloud, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Other activities include a scavenger hunt, crafts and student artwork on display.
World Famous Educator And Performer Uwe Kind Returning To Ashwaubenon
On March 10 and 11 Uwe Kind, an international performer, will be returning to Ashwaubenon for four concerts. All Cormier Early Learning Center and Pioneer Elementary School students will be attending one of two concerts. German students at Parkview Middle School and Ashwaubenon High School will also have the opportunity to attend a concert. In addition, an evening concert is planned for Ashwaubenon School District families and village residents at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Ashwaubenon High School.
Ashwaubenon School District Staff Raises $2,500 For Scholarships
The Ashwaubenon School District staff has raised over $2,500 to support their Gift of Education program, a partnership between the Ashwaubenon Education Association, Support Professionals Association, and Substitute Teachers Association. The Gift of Education Program aims to award a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior of Ashwaubenon High School each spring.
Ashwaubenon Schools Hold Dr. Seuss Read-In With Senior Citizens
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary and Valley View Elementary will join other schools and libraries across the country on Tuesday, March 2nd, to celebrate Read Across America Day. Senior citizens will take part in the event by reading and discussing Dr. Seuss books in various classrooms.
Cormier Kindergarteners Become Music Composers
Children's musicians Tom Pease and Stuart Stotts will, for the 6th year, join the students of Ashwaubenon's Cormier Early Learning Center as Artists in Residence. Pease and Stotts will present a concert for all students on March 1st at 9:00 a.m. and then travel with music teacher Kim Carlson to each classroom where the students will help compose their own lyrics to songs. After practicing their songs the students will present a concert for family and friends to debut their work.
Ashwaubenon Community Senior Citizen Nights at Jaguar Basketball
Ashwaubenon senior citizens will again be given special recognition at the Jaguar Girls Basketball game on Tuesday, February 23rd. The event is one of two Community Senior Citizen Nights that have been planned by the Ashwaubenon High School Athletic Department to express appreciation for all the support that senior citizens in the village have given to the district students and staff throughout the year.
AHS Jazz Bands To Participate In Chicago Jazz Festival
The Ashwaubenon High School jazz ensembles, under the direction of Marc Jimos and Greg Sauve, will be traveling to Chicago on February 26-27 to take part in the 'Jazz in the Meadows' Jazz Festival held at Rolling Meadows High School. Bands from Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Indiana will compete for honors in this annual event.
Irwin Wins Girls State Nordic Ski Championship, Boys Team Places Second
This past weekend in Wausau, the Ashwaubenon Nordic Ski Team competed at the Wisconsin High School Nordic Ski Championship along with 400 other skiers. The results, an individual state champion and a second place team finish, represent the team's best-ever showing in the state championships.
Ashwaubenon Football Coaches To Be Inducted Into State Hall Of Fame
The 31st enshrinement into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) Hall of Fame will take place in Madison at the Marriott West on Saturday, March 27, 2010. High School coaches, college coaches, and players will be inducted. The Hall of Fame Banquet is open to the public. This year's inductees include former head/assistant football coach, Rich Bessert, and Jim Allen, current assistant coach, both from Ashwaubenon High School.
Pioneer Elementary To Learn Oneida Culture Through 'Planting Seeds Of Knowledge' Grants
Ashwaubenon's Pioneer Elementary School has been awarded two 'Planting Seeds of Knowledge' grants to host artist residency workshops this month. The grants will be used to teach all Pioneer students, grades one through five, the Oneida Native American culture.
AHS Student's State Award-Winning Artwork on Exhibit at Milwaukee Art Museum
Ashwaubenon High School junior Alli Siebens received a Silver Key award for the 2010 Wisconsin Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. Alli's ceramic piece "Rooted in my Heart" will be on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum from February 6 through March 21. This marks the first time in over ten years that an Ashwaubenon student has received an award in this competition.
Valley View Elementary Hosts Destination Imagination Workshop
On Saturday, February 6, Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School will host the Green Bay Regional Destination Imagination Instant Challenge Workshop. Competitive Destination Imagination (DI) teams, comprised of area students in grades three through twelve, will complete four instant challenges.
Ashwaubenon German Students Celebrate Fasching
Ashwaubenon School District students who are studying German language and culture will hold their annual German Fasching Celebration on Thursday, February 4th at Stadium View. Doors open at 5:30 PM with performances by Kindergarten through Twelfth grade German students beginning at 6:00 PM.
AHS Band to Host Famous Musician from India
On Tuesday, February 2nd, sitar and tabla artist Sandip Burman from India will meet with the Ashwaubenon High School Wind Ensemble. Burman will perform on tabla Indian hand drums and the sitar, talk about Indian music and instruments and discuss the culture of India. The presentation takes place from 12:00 noon to 12:40 p.m.
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School & Packer Greg Jennings 'Fuel Up To Play 60'
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School is taking the lead for student health as one of the first schools to participate in a nationwide wellness event. Community-focused and fun, 'Fuel Up to Play 60' is activating schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which help educate students and curb obesity.
Parkview will host a 'Fuel Up to Play 60' Kickoff Event on Thursday, January 28th at 8:00 AM in their gymnasium. Green Bay Packer wide receiver Greg Jennings will be the guest speaker.
Jaguar Jazz Ensemble Joins Area Physicians in Benefit Concert
On Saturday, January 23rd, Ashwaubenon High School's Jaguar Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Marc Jimos, will be performing with area physicians as part of Heid Music Company's annual "Doctors in Recital" benefit. This year's proceeds will go towards the Howe Neighborhood Family Resource Center in Green Bay. The concert begins at 7:00 PM at St. Norbert College's Walter Theater.
Cormier School Hosts 'Biggest Bedtime Story Night'
On January 14th Ashwaubenon's Cormier School & Early Learning Center hosted the Biggest Bedtime Story Night. Four year-old and five year-old kindergarteners and their families spent the evening together reading and listening to many stories. Over 290 people attended, many of them dressed in their pajamas to celebrate the bedtime reading event.
Ashwaubenon High Advances Seven to DECA State Competition
On January 9th, Ashwaubenon High School sent 25 students to compete with over 700 students from twenty other schools in the DECA District Competition at Kimberly High School. Two Ashwaubenon teams, Financial Analysis and Sports and Entertainment, won second place while the Buying and Merchandising team placed third.
