The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority and this page was created to provide information should you have any concerns in light of potential media coverage questioning the safety of crumb rubber used with field turf.
Our JAGfield project installed field turf with crumb rubber at our Goelz Field facility. It is one of 13,000 other facilities across the country. ProGrass, our supplier, has assured us that from the information and extensive research available from the University of California - Berkeley, the State of Connecticut and the State of Massachusetts, that all our field turf is safe. We can’t ignore the research and we'll continue to make decisions based on facts, not fear.
We certainly understand the concern created from well-conceived questions, but it needs to be balanced with what is currently known. The research and our supplier continue to assure us that their product installed on Goelz Field is safe.
The federal government is performing a comprehensive study on field turf that should be available later this year. If there are any findings that are concerning, we will respond should that be necessary.
