| Valley View 4th Graders To Skype With Pen Pals From Ecuador |
On May 23rd, Jennifer Nelson's 4th grade Spanish students at Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School will Skype with their pen pals from Ecuador. This activity is part of a grant project entitled "Bringing Everyone Together with Technology." Mrs. Nelson was awarded an NEA Student Achievement grant to help increase Spanish language acquisition and cultural awareness for her students. The Skype session will take place from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the school on 2200 True Lane.

| AHS Students Selected To State Honors Choir |
Ashwaubenon High School juniors Luke Connelly and Lauren Pavlik have been selected to be members of the 2012 State Honors Choir. Connelly will perform in the Overture Center at the State Music Conference in Madison at the end of October. Pavlik was not able to accept the award since she will be in Ecuador with the AHS Spanish Club during the honor choir's summer camp.

Ashwaubenon's Valley View Elementary School is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from the OMNOVA Solutions Foundation. The funds will be used to support developing 21st century teaching and learning spaces at Valley View.

| AHS Students Excel At DECA International Competition; One Earns Top 10 In World |
Six Ashwaubenon High School students competed at the DECA International Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, which took place April 29th through May 1st. Three of the six students made it to the final round by finishing in the top ten percent of the world in their competition category. One advanced further by being named a top 10 student in the world in his category. Over 12,000 students from around the world took part in the annual marketing competition.

| Ashwaubenon Students Excel At SkillsUSA State Conference |
A group of nineteen Ashwaubenon students from Parkview Middle School and Ashwaubenon High recently competed in the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Wisconsin Dells. The students earned one 1st, two 2nd and three 3rd place finishes in the event which showcases career and technical education students from across the state.

| Parkview Receives $20,000 Project Lead The Way Grant |
Ashwaubenon's Parkview Middle School is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from Project Lead The Way (PLTW), the nation's leading provider of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum. Funds from the grant will support the implementation of the PLTW engineering curriculum, including the purchase of materials and equipment that will be used in the hands-on, project-based classes that are a distinguishing characteristic of PLTW's curriculum.

| Ashwaubenon Advances Record Seven Teams To Global DI Competition |
Ashwaubenon schools qualified seven Destination ImagiNation (DI) teams to compete at the Global Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 24-26. Fifteen Ashwaubenon teams competed at DI's State Tournament in Stevens Point on April 14th. In addition to the seven teams advancing to Globals, two Ashwaubenon teams earned special recognition awards. Seven teams marks the most Ashwaubenon has ever advanced to Globals.

| Three AHS Students Earn Illinois Jazz Festival Honors |
During the weekend of February 25th, the Ashwaubenon High School jazz ensembles took part in the annual Rolling Meadows Jazz Festival in Chicago, Illinois. Three students earned soloist awards for their outstanding performances at the festival - senior Libby Welton on the drum set, junior Jared Roberts on the drum set, and junior Cole Roberg on the electric guitar. The festival features students from over fifty high schools throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa.

| Ashwaubenon Students Receive Top Awards at Regional Youth Art Show |
Two Ashwaubenon students received the top award in their category while six others were recognized for their outstanding achievements and exemplary talents at the Wisconsin Art Education Association's regional Youth Art Month Exhibition. The event took place on Sunday, February 5th at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan's Fine Art Gallery. The artwork from five of the students will move on to the State Youth Art Month Celebration where it will be on exhibit in the State Capitol Rotunda.

| 4 & 5 Year-old Kindergarten Registrations Now Being Accepted |
Four year-old and five year-old kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year are taking place now in Ashwaubenon at Cormier School and Early Learning Center, 2280 South Broadway. To be eligible for four year-old kindergarten in 2012-2013, a child must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2012. To be eligible for five year-old kindergarten in 2012-2013, a child must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2012.

| District Receives Carl Perkins Career & Technical Education Award |
Ashwaubenon School District is among 25 school districts in the state that received "Perfect Perkins Performance" awards during a September workshop in Stevens Point. The award recognizes career and technical education programs for meeting national indicators of program participation and student achievement as part of the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006. Ashwaubenon High School's Dirk Ribbens, Associate Principal, and John Hilbert, Student Services Counselor, were at the workshop to receive the award.

| School District Earns Environmental Stewardship Award |
For saving enough energy in 17 months to effectively plant more than 20,380 trees, Ashwaubenon School District will be presented with The Award for Energy Stewardship from Energy Education during the September 12th school board meeting. The Award for Energy Stewardship recognizes the organization's efforts to implement an innovative organizational behavior-based energy conservation and management program. The program, administered through a strategic alliance with Energy Education, has also helped all Ashwaubenon School District buildings become Energy Star certified.
