Democratic Citizenship

Democratic Citizenship is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the basic structure and operation of government in the United States, with the emphasis on the national government. This includes units on the basics of government and democracy, the Constitution, the three branches of government, civil liberties/civil rights issues, and citizen responsibilities and participation. While an historical perspective is important, we will be interested in examining the actual operations of government and political groups today. The goal of the course is to prepare students to become informed and effective 21st century citizens in a democratic society.
