The Ashwaubenon Jaguaress Dance Team is an award-winning athletic program with a tradition of high standards and expectations. Its purpose is to cultivate a love of dance among its members, to develop a true sense of self-discipline and excellence in working together as a team, and to foster a sense of community and responsibility to each other, to the program, and to the Ashwaubenon High School community.
The Jaguaress Dance Team is a competitive team comparable to all sports at Ashwaubenon High School. While on the team, the girls learn the concepts and movement patterns of 4 difference styles of dance - Pom, Jazz, High Kick, and Hip Hop.
Pom - emphasis on synchronization and visual effect.
High Kick - emphasis on quality of kicks and visual effect.
Jazz - Emphasis on technical moves, style, and execution.
Hip-Hop - Emphasis on sharp, synchronized choreography; street dance or hip hop style.
Dance Team members are required to a two-season (Fall and Winter) commitment during the school year. The team performs at all home Varsity Football games in fall, including the Homecoming Pep Assembly and Parade, as well as the majority of both Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball games in winter. We also perform at all the post-season games for both the Football and Basketball teams when they are involved in the play-offs.
COMPETITIONS... The competition portion of the season starts in November. The team competes at 7 to 8 various competitions on Saturdays throughout winter. In the past the team has attended the Pulaski Showcase, Milwaukee Bucks Dance Competition, Green Bay Holiday Dance Classic, Little Chute Invitational, Freedom Irish Invite, and the Kaukauna Dance Classic. At the end of the season there is the WACPC Regional Competition where the team can perform two of their best competition routines. If either/both of the routines qualifies, then the team participates in the WACPC State Dance Competition the first weekend in February.
In 2011, the Ashwaubenon Jaguaress Dance Team decided to host the first ever dance competition at Ashwaubenon High School for various other High School Varsity and JV Dance Teams throughout Wisconsin to attend. The Ashwaubenon Dance Invite was a grand success in 2011 and will be an annual dance competition on the second Saturday in December. This competition will be used as a fundraiser with the hope to raise enough money to take the team to Nationals in the near future.
