As of 2016, we reached the milestone of over 1,000 non-resident students attending Ashwaubenon schools under Wisconsin's Open Enrollment system. That is nearly 1/3 of our entire student body! We are very PROUD the fact that so many students and families from outside the School District CHOOSE to attend our schools.
The State of Wisconsin Open Enrollment Program allows parents to apply for their children to attend a nonresident school district at no cost to them other than providing their own transportation for their students to and from school. All open enrollment begins with an application submitted on the DPI website during a three-month application period each February. There are no exceptions to this requirement for any reason and open enrollment is an option, not a guarantee. After the applications are filed in February, both the resident and nonresident school districts must approve the request. Parents are then notified by mail in June that their student is approved to attend the nonresident school the following school year.
The Open Enrollment Application period for the 2024-25 school year is Monday, February 5, 2024 through 4:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The on-line Open Enrollment Application will be available during these dates at DPI's Open Enrollment page. Additional information regarding Open Enrollment can also be found at this website or by clicking on the Frequently Asked Questions or brochure links below.
Open Enrollment applications are to be completed by the parent or legal guardian (or the pupil if age 18 or older). If you chose to complete the paper application (linked below) instead of the online application, you must submit your paper application to: Jennifer Bower, Ashwaubenon School District, 1055 Griffiths Lane, Green Bay, WI 54304. You may also email the application to jbower@ashwaubenonk12.org or fax it to FAX: 920-492-2999.
Paper applications are to be submitted to the above person no earlier than February 5, 2024, and no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2024. A postmark does not meet this requirement. The time period may not be extended for any purpose.

Alternative to Open Enrollment Program Option/Information:
Parents normally apply for open enrollment for the following school year during a three-month application period which begins in February and ends on the last weekday in April. However, 2011 Act 114 established a procedure by which parents may apply for open enrollment outside of the regular application period. If you wish to find out more about this option contact Jennifer Bower, Open Enrollment Coordinator at jbower@ashwaubenonk12.org or you can reach her at 492.2905, ext. 1002. Additional information regarding Alternative Open Enrollment can also be found at DPI's Open Enrollment Alternative or through the links below.
Tuition Waiver Option/Information:
Families who are moving out of our District and wish to have their student(s) remain in Ashwaubenon Schools are usually eligible for a "tuition waiver" that allows their students to continue to attend long enough to apply for open enrollment. A tuition waiver is only temporary - until the next open enrollment application window - when the family must complete and file an open enrollment application for the student(s) to continue to attend Ashwaubenon Schools up to the time they graduate. When a family moves out of Ashwaubenon they should immediately contact the school(s) their student(s) attend and request these forms.

Tuition Payment Option/Information:
One final option available to nonresident families is for them to enter into a tuition agreement with Ashwaubenon Schools. The tuition charged will only be the amount as allowed under the open enrollment program. If you wish to find out more about this option contact Keith Lucius, Assistant Superintendent of Schools at 492.2905. ext. 1005.
